"British Values" has become something of a rallying call recently.

But what do we mean by the phrase? What do other people mean by it? Is it patriotic? Is it nationalistic?

This site is created to try to define what might be considered a broad definition of those values and explore their origins.

Furthermore, in the current political climate, we are in danger of losing control of the phrase as more extreme political groups try to use it as their own rallying call.

I believe that the British are essentially middle of the road in terms of politics. But as people don't tend to get energised by middle of the road politics, the views of the quiet majority often go unnoticed.

If we don't want to lose our nation to extremism then we need to be more enthusiastic about what we do want, rather than what we don't want!
